1893 Just So Tobacco

1893 Just So Tobacco on Ebay
1893 Just So Tobacco baseball cards There are at least 14 cards in this set (total undetermined), each measuring appx. 2-1/2 x 3-7/8 inches. Unnumbered and blank-backed.

Card fronts show the player in a sepia photograph surrounded by a white border; his name is superimposed, while below is an ad for the issuer, 'Chew or smoke JUST SO.'

This is among the rarest of baseball card issues, even going by 19th-century standards. These were probably a Cleveland, Ohio-only issue, as they depict only members of the Cleveland Spiders. Printed on heavy paper, their distribution was probably through either packs of cigarettes or pouches of chewing tobacco, given the sponsor's ad.

This set is relatively little-known within the hobby, and it is nearly certain that further examples will turn up as time goes on.
