Card fronts offer a color image of the player, surrounded by a thin white border. Superimposed over the image is a small black text block containing the player's name.
Card backs repeat the player's name and give biographical data, followed by a large block of text regarding his career. The bottom quarter of the card back gives the card number as part of the pitch for the set, 'No. xx in the 1951 Series BASEBALL Picture Cards.'
This set was more elongated than Bowmana's previous offerings, and once more the number of cards in the set was increased as Bowman became more confident in their ability to sell baseball cards to collectors year over year.
As with many baseball issues, the high numbers (in this case #'s 253-324) are the hardest to locate due to scarcity. Unfortunately for eager buyers, these numbers also contain the rookie cards for Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays, further skewing the supply-and-demand dynamic.
Prominent cards in this set include:
2 - Yogi Berra
32 - Duke Snider
165 - Ted Williams
253 - Mickey Mantle
305 - Willie Mays
