Card fronts feature a black-and-white photo of the player, surrounded by a white border.
Card backs give the card number and player name along the top, followed by brief biographical data and a paragraph of text about the player's career. At the bottom is an ad for Blony bubble gum.
This was Bowman's first set, and probably the first important baseball card set to come out after the close of the war. Despite their crudity, Bomwan's cards would dominate the market until Topps started getting their act together a few years down the road.
Twelve cards, or about one-quarter of the set, are short-printed, which skews their value upward as they are more difficult for collectors to locate.
Important cards in this set include:
3 - Ralph Kiner
5 - Bob Feller
6 - Yogi Berra
8 - Phil Rizzuto
18 - Warren Spahn
36 - Stan Musial
38 - Red Schoendienst
